If a customer avails of Rackspace Cloud Monitoring they qualify for several services, 1- monitoring of any infrastructure anywhere
2- customized alerts
3- Global and Regional granularity
4- time savings and auto scaling
Notifications and warnings (customized alerts) pop up to tell you that a problem has been found. Rackspace makes customized alerts available through a control panel, but an API can be set up also for custom integrations. The alerts make clients aware of issues with URLs, websites, protocols and ports.
Infrastructure can be monitored by users from anywhere. Once set up, businesses can use the monitoring system across various infrastructure, which servers hosted on-site, or those hosted by cloud services or other cloud providers. Regional and Global granularity enables companies to manage their IT infrastructure even when dispersed. Parameters can be set up by managers to engage the monitoring service on a regional basis or on another parameter. Auto scaling can also be used to manage parameters, this helps the monitoring service evolve as businesses expand their infrastructure or adapt their services.
An agent-based monitoring service is also available from Rackspace Cloud Monitoring. This service reports and tracks various elements, standard
components such as disc memory and CPU and custom application parameters. Service metrics are also supplied and clients get summaries which help them understand the initial cause of any problems. Aggregation of data enables customers to examine data in various ways, including individual entities and data sets. Because the Rackspace Cloud Monitoring service is cloud based, Rackspace say`s “there is no maintenance – no installation and no upgrades.
Cloudkick, a business Rackspace acquired in 2010, is accredited with the technology behind the Cloud Monitoring service and it`s team have been instrumental in it`s development. Director of product at Rackspace and Cloudkick founder Dan Dispaltro said, “ultimately we sought to make something that would make developers lives easier, whilst allowing the rest of the business to feel confident, Cloudkick was one of the first tools to make the transition to the cloud paradigm easier to understand and now we have fine tuned it into what Rackspace Cloud Monitoring is today, a reliable and scalable monitoring service.”
